FIRST POST
It is now the middle of October, and several problems arise; first a near complete lack of work for me anymore with the weather rapidly failing to support my major source of income. Also the enhanced complaints people have about the weather here, a thing most curious because I really enjoy the weather in fall especially after having survived summer.
Other problems, It's soo close to Halloween which is one of the best Holidays in American tradition to celebrate; basically dress up as something and party hop, or watch movies, or hand out candy, Or do whatever you really want to do. It is too close to the day to get much of anything done and no one has time or money because "it's coming up really fast" as you will hear time and time again. OR " I dunno what I want to do, so I cannot commit to being anywhere or replying to event invitations" as happens if you have a computer and like the most of the world now live through it rather than with it.
GO SEE THE MOVIE FURY
( Andy and I saw it, that movie is dark, brilliant and stunning in pretty much every way you could ask for )
* I will do a different post about why it is an amazing movie later.

Other reasons why the middle of October is problematic;

I want to start writing my novel, hell I have three novels I want to write.
Downloading software every other day as recommended to me by other "NANNOs" which promise to help organize or process the information which swims in my brain. This year's theoretical project is a post apocalyptic piece set on a planet where the moon was shattered by another stellar object and over time filtered into a wide band of rings around the world. The planet where the characters live is a Red Dwarf star, and much else about their stellar physics is unusual compared to life on Earth. Their planet has been drying for more than two centuries and along with sporadic meteorite impacts it is an increasingly difficult place to live. In the final years of their pre-cataclysm the civilizations of this world built crawling vehicles to carry the wealthiest members away from the cities which were falling into chaos and ruin, and smaller vehicles were purchased by the more average people. Those who could not afford motorized transports had few other options and they would walk or ride beasts of burden mostly. Some along the coasts built modified racing boats and became "land sailors" with their sleek hulls cruising over the landscapes on wheels they called their small craft "Land yachts" and formed nomadic bands of herdsman, hunter gatherers and sometimes bandits.
In the years which immediately came after "The Fall" ; which refers more to the orbital bombardments that took place than their imploding civilization; most people simply abandoned living in fixed locations as the weather became so severe as to make most agriculture impractical. Lacking a moon for tides and to help with orbital regularity the seasons changed and the cycles between winter / summer have become slower and more pronounced to a point where in winter the polar glaciers can move hundreds of miles.

The plant and animal life which survived or thrived in the new ecosystems of the world are bleaker and harsher than could support populations with industrial centers and now even those privileged enough to live on the greatest Land Ships are but a tiny fraction of their original numbers. It was said that originally there were hundreds of the massive crawling city states called Land ships, but now many have failed through time or poor governorship and those which can must abide by careful plans to keep their people fed and to keep out of harms way.
Today those who are exiled from their nomad tribes or city states and doomed to live out their lives on foot are called "Dead men walking" or "The walking Dead" and among the lowest of the low, too unclean for any civilized people to approach.
Our Main character is a man named Duncan, who has a sordid past among one of the city states and was lucky enough to have a land yacht of his own. He has fled across the great flats of the midland waste following the best wind he can hoping to reach his secret destination before his pursuers catch up with him. Members of The Bedic Horde, they are among the worst ofall Perth's outcasts to encounter and for some reason they have decided to race Duncan. His wind has carried him two days without sleep and two more days before that, soon he will not be able to stay awake and when he falls asleep in his command seat he knows he will lose the wind at his sail and the horde will catch him. There is a greater terror that haunts Duncan it is the once pale white light in the sky behind him, an ill omen in the form of a comet and Duncan remembers the words whispered around nomad campfires about the return of comets and doom foreshadowed by their pallid lights.
What will befall Duncan in the end of the first Chapter will change his live and by his choices the lives of uncounted others.
